The Good Thing About Cynicism
From Charley’s “Courage:”

Yes, you are cynical, but more than anything, you’re a realist. You see what’s screwed up in the world,
but you also take time to remember what’s right.

Mine came back 84% cynical: “You’re cynicism borders on paranoia. Worry less. You’re out to get the world as much as it’s out to get you.”
Stupid quiz…

I don’t think that the word ‘cynical’ applies to all of the examples offered in that quiz. The word implies a negative connotation, so believing that all politicians are liars is cynical, but distrusting government in general is not. Or believing that all people who claim to have psychic powers are charlatans and rip-off artists is cynical, but believing that psychic powers don’t really exist is not.
Quite often the word cynicism is appropriated by people to mean disbelieving in whatever it is they believe in.

You’re not the only person who found their ‘level’ of cynicism surprising. Mine was a bit low, I thought!

***You Are 36% Cynical***
Generally you give people the benefit of the doubt. But there are exceptions.
You buy into many of the things that mainstream society believes, but you’re not anybody’s fool.
some things just really didn’t have a true yes or no…so i hedged lol

Patrick,
I scored a 68%. You can see my test at my new blog: http://anarchistdharma.com/
I generally agree with what Paul said. Once I saw the questions I just assumed that they more or less meant skepticism and not really cynicism.
Interesting.
I hope you stop by and check out my new digs. I’m still writing with the Blue Voice, but Anarchistdharma.com will be my primary blog site from now on. I’m still decorating, but it’s getting there. You were one of the first blogs I ever read a couple years back and I still love visiting.
