Minor Cosmetic Changes
Minor. Nothing major.
I’ve made a couple of more adjustments to what began as Blogger’s “Harbour” template. While I like lighthouses, I wanted to make this blog look more TV-related since that’s what I do.
I’ve removed the subtle clouds from the top and the subtle rocky coastline from the bottom, making the entire background now a nice clean white. And I found the “blue fade” border on a free graphics site and have made it (and versions thereof) as the new official divider on the main column and sidebars.
I’m growing happier with the look now. I think I’ll stop fiddling with it now. (I’m hoping that if Blogger ever invites me to go “Beta,” I’ll be able to take this look with me one way or another.)
What do you think of the look?

I like it! It is nice and clean looking….
I have noticed that your page takes much longer to load recently, for some reason…. (and I’m not on dial-up, either)
Just wanted to let you know!

I’m on DSL and I have noticed that over the past few days, it is taking an extraordinary amount of time to publish a post.
The other day, Blogger had an outage, and I’m beginning to wonder whether there’s some hold up that they’re still working on.
I’ll look into it and see what I can find out.

This morning Blogger reported problems with spam blogs being created at a rapid rate that slowed things down and they were able to put a stop to it.
That was my main attraction to moving to beta. No more republishing and posts publish instantly, too.
I think I got to move over as fast as I did because I created a beta account and a new beta blog. The invite to merge accounts came before a week was over.

I’m digging the look, Patrick - a new look for a new beginning!

Makes sense.
I created a beta version, just to see what was different, but there has still been no invite as yet. Maybe if I was actually posting regular content there, they’d move quicker for me.
Now that I have my template closer to the way I want it, my main reasons for wanting to go beta are the category tags that non-Beta can’t do without Technorati and easier template editing. I particularly like being able to edit one element of the sidebar without having to go into the full template every time.

The sidebar and footer elements are wonderful. You can add them to the header area too with a bit of html trickery. When you have a long sidebar as I do on some of my blogs, it makes editing so much easier. I just wish I could move Cyber Chocolate over to the new format, but I don’t know how to move all the custom css that was created for me.
