Woulda Been Nice…

Tag: Consumer, Humor, TechnologyPatrick @ 7:37 am

A Circle K gas station in West Ashley recently went high-tech with a new lighted digital sign to display the current price for gasoline. It replaced the old plastic channeled numbers that a worker would have to manually change.

Now, I imagine, someone just types a price on a keyboard and it lights up instantly.

But we all know how computers can occasionally be unpredictable. That happened this weekend, when their sign went nuts!

When was the last time you saw gas for under a quarter a gallon. Come to think of it, I’ve never seen it.

I was not for a moment suckered into thinking that there was any kind of chance that some weird promotion was underway. When I walked inside the store, the station’s workers looked like they’d been asked once too many about it and they obviously had no clue how to fix the problem.

When I drove by last night, the amount had been replaced by a series of hyphens. Maybe no one there has ever heard of just rebooting a computer? In TV, the “primary engineering solution” is always to turn it off and then turn it back on. If that doesn’t work, then you have a problem.

I thought I’d better capture this one on film. It’s not an image we’re likely to ever see again. At least until another computer glitch happens.

Even the tax on the gas is more than that. :)

Wow. I think I remember, deep in the depths of my memory, gas actually being priced at 20 cents, but I wasn’t more than 5 or 6 at the time I think.

Thanks for the giggle, and the reminder of my age. ;-)

Now, that’s funny!… That’s what they get with their fancy technology. Maybe the guy with the letters and the long pole wasn’t so bad after all. I wonder if any customers pushed the issue to try to get the advertised price ? ( I’ve been in retail too long )

I have a slight memory of only paying 25 cents a gallon for Sunoco gas for my motorcycle!!

I remember about 5 years ago gas dropped down to 69 cents in OKC. I thought the end of the world had occurred. But then that would be higher right? De ;)
