Seven-Year Marriages
Married and wishing you weren’t? If a new proposal by a Bavarian lawmaker ever goes anywhere, it might be the news you’ve been waiting for! (Although you’d probably have to have been married and living in Germany for it to have the impact you want.)
Gabriele Pauli wants marriages to last seven years, after which they can be renewed by the couple or the marriage would be automatically dissolved.
I wonder how long it’ll take the defenders of the “institution of marriage” to start protests over that idea.

This idea already exists in Shia Islam. There is a type of marriage in Shia Islam in which the couple can put a time limit to it from the outset. At the end of the time, the marriage dissolves. However, they can elect at that time to continue it if they wish.

Oh, totally awesome! Sez the old married woman (21 years, so three-times-married?)….

It’s probably a great idea as long as both folks know it going into the relationship. I’d probably throw some limitations on financial renumeration and add a provision that if children are introduced into the equation during the first term, the marriage reverts to a permanent institution.
On second thought, can’t we all just have sex and call it even?
