Demands for Proof

I hear it all the time: people, particularly non-believers, who challenge a believer to “prove that their God exists.”
The challenge comes, usually, because the challengers already know what’s going to happen: the believer, invariably, won’t satisfactorily prove the existence of God, no matter what they come up with.  Which is, of course, the main reason the challenge is …

Scrutiny

Submitted by Patrick on February 27, 2008 – 1:37 pm | 4 Comments

I heard in passing on the Today show this morning that Hillary Rodham Clinton has complained that she’s facing much more media scrutiny than her opponent Barack Obama.

Aside from the fact that this is a typical complaint of any candidate who isn’t winning by a landslide, and I’m not saying that she’s necessarily correct…but I wonder what she expected: she has slammed down our throats the notion that she is the one with all of the experience, while Obama is a newbie.

If she has such a long and distinguished list of accomplishments, why wouldn’t she expect to be scrutinized more than someone with the “clean slate” she’d like you to believe Obama has?

After all, you can’t scrutinize what doesn’t exist…right, Hillary?

  • [...] Patrick has a question for Hillary Clinton: . . . but I wonder what she expected: she has slammed down our throats the notion that she is the one with all of the experience, while Obama is a newbie. [...]

She has been unfairly attacked by media after media while Obama has been given nothing but good words. The media is so afraid of being labeled racist its not funny.Everytime something negitive is said about a prominet black person black leaders start playing the racist card. Hell if it was’nt for Chicago’s southside and a few good speech writers Obama and his ol lady would just be two people on the Springer show trying to figure out who their childern’s daddy really was.

And you seriously think a remark like that is acceptable and fair? Really?

Hello from Chicago’s Southside. Hilary was scrutinized as badly as she has been because she’s been in the lead for so long. Now that Obama is squeaking ahead, he will be scrutinized more. It’s human nature. The first big question is whether he really has enough experience to step into this job. This is his first term in the Senate. He only spent a little longer in the Illinois Senate. But then if you look at Hilary’s record, she’s spent about as much time in the U.S. Senate as he has in both the U.S. and Illinois Senate. How much experience she’s picked up while serving as First Lady, is questionable. I mean she wasn’t part of the decision making process, although I’m absolutely positive Bill heard exactly what she thought on any given subject.

On a historical note, Abraham Lincoln served one term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to President, he was serving in Sangamon County in Illinois as a judge. Kennedy was elected to the office of President during his first term as Senator.
