One Day, They’ll Understand
I was browsing a few blogs at AOL while I still can; as of November 1st, AOL’s J-Land will be no more. It’ll just vanish into a blogospheric black hole when someone hits the big “purge” button. AOL has worked out some kind of deal with Blogger to make it easy for AOL bloggers to transfer their blogs to Blogger’s platform. I came across a comment from a newly-migrated writer who said — I kid you not — “So far, so good. It’s not AOL, of course, but I’ll adjust.” Blogger isn’t AOL, and the person says that like it’s somehow a bad thing?!?

You must remember that the vast majority of AOL’s customers are AOL customers because they don’t understand anything about how the computer or the Internet work. AOL is very attractive to many folks for that reason.

I can’t believe how many people still use AOL software to access the Internet! I didn’t realize this until all the AOL journal folks moved and started reading me on Blogger. My Sitemeter shows a LOT of people use AOL.
