Saturday Six - Episode 239
Here’s an idea: a set of six questions that have nothing to do with politics!

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment here, or put the answers in an entry on your journal…but either way, leave a link to your journal so that everyone else can visit! To be counted as “first to play,” you must be the first player to either answer the questions in a comment or to provide a complete link to the specific entry in your journal in which you answer the questions. 1. If you had to fill in as a substitute teacher at a local middle school, what subject would you be most comfortable teaching?
2. When you were in school, what was a better indication of your true understanding of what you were learning: class participation, the accuracy of your homework, or your test scores?
3. You meet someone for the first time and have a brief conversation with them. If you run into them the next afternoon, how likely are you to remember their name?
4. Take the quiz: Do You Have Gaps in Your Knowledge?
5. If you had “gaps” in your knowledge, did you expect to have them where they were predicted? If you had none, which of the listed subjects would be the ones you’d most expect gaps to be?
6. If you could go back to school for one semester free of charge and “try again” with any subject, which one would you choose and why?

1. I am a math teacher already. I have taught science as well. Either would be fine, but probably math would be best.
2. Maybe class participation, or maybe test scores.
3. If I don’t expect to see them again, I probably won’t remember their name(s).

6. For only one semester? I’d like to get a taste of some foreign languages I hadn’t taken before and strengthen some I had, I’d like to take some more statistics and some more geology and astronomy, maybe review my calculus and differential equations and physics.

3. Well it depends on what kind of impact they had on me, but I usually can remember the next day.

Here are my answers…
1. Yikes! How about Introduction To Blogging? LOL.
2. I think test scores. I LOVED taking tests. LOL.
3. I am pretty good at remembering names if I meet someone in person, but sometimes I forget the names of those I meet on the Internet. It must be something about looking into someone’s eyes.
4. It seems I have 3 gaps in my knowleges. YIKES. Philosophy, Science and History! But I don’t have gaps in Religion, Art, Economics and Literature. So, I guess that is pretty good. FRET!
5. Yeah, it seemed about right.
6. Probably Math. To this day it completely escapes me, but I do enjoy studying economics, especially with the big struggle going on today. I find the Stock Market fascinating.

Okay, sweet one. No politics. Is it politically correct to say a) I’m disapoointed and b) I’m proud of my second son? I am very proud of you, Patrick, for your intellectual curiosity and the courage you clearly have — to buck the S.C. tide. Add to that your fearlessness in loving. Loving requires much more of us than does war. You are well-loved in the Hansen home, and for good reason.
re: Saturday Six:
1. Writing. Both creative and “How to Write an Essay”–both forms of communication are nearly dead. And they’re critically important.
2. I did fairly well on everything except HUGE tests. Like SAT, where (in 1965) my 1180 drove my English teacher to nearly attack me in the hall. Major test anxiety thing. My problem? Not verbal score, a 770. You do the math. Apparently, I couldn’t
3. Not likely unless they’re particularly articulate (in the rural northern Pee Dee Region, this is rare) or extremely right-wing…in which case it wouldn’t matter much. The chances of our meeting again would be mighty slim.
4. None. I’m old. Had a lot of time to learn. And to think.
5. Math (not listed). Science.
6. I wouldn’t try again. But I would love to take classes in the area of Middle East Studies/Islam. Also, I’d like to learn Chinese. Whatever dialect all the Wall Street Elite are having their kids take beginning in kindergarten (this is true). China will likely, in my lifetime, become the world’s dominant economic (and military) power.
