My Own Personal Boot Camp
Okay, enough is enough.
I want to look more like this guy. Currently, this unknown clipart model and I would never be mistaken for twins. Or brothers. Not even cousins.
So starting today, December 1st, I am getting serious about getting in shape again. I’m 39 years old now, though I normally will only admit to being 38. A close friend at work just suffered a heart attack, (though he’s doing amazingly well now and his doctors tell him that there was no damage to the heart). My clothes are getting more snug these days, and I know that statistically, the average American gains anywhere from 10 to 15 pounds this time of year.
Thanksgiving dinner, as well as the birthday cake mom made for me, didn’t help matters at all.
So my plan is to start every morning — yes, actually get up early — and spend some time exercising. On days when it isn’t a big rainy mess outside, that will include running/jogging/brisk walking. If it’s really messy outside, I’ll lift weights or go to the fitness center at my apartment complex and do whatever I can in there.
I figure the only way I will actually stay at this is to take a drastic step; the easier I make it on myself, the easier I’ll find it to not follow through. And I need discipline.
I’m also trying to correct my diet, to get it closer to where it was when I managed to lose a good bit of weight and get my cholesterol from slightly above 200 all the way down to 139. (It probably won’t be that low ever again, but as long as it’s closer to 180, I’ll be happy with that.)
Wish me luck.

Cliff and I are in the same boat, as I mentioned in this morning’s entry.
Love the food, hate the added pounds. I guess it isn’t supposed to be easy; we’re supposed to learn discipline, right?

Good luck. I found the South Beach Diet the quickest, most effective way to lose weight. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a permanent fix!
