McCain: Obama Wasn’t Lying

When you think of rivals of President Barack Obama, you can’t find one much bigger than John McCain, the man Obama defeated to become president.
McCain appeared this morning on Today and was asked about the outburst from South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst during Obama’s speech Wednesday night. McCain said nothing he has read in Obama’s plan shows any evidence that there will be any coverage for illegal aliens.
Just last night, prior to Wilson’s apology, McCain told CNN’s Larry King that Wilson’s behavior was wrong:
“Totally disrespectful. No place for it.”
That’s from John McCain, for Pete’s sake! And it’s Republicans like Wilson who claim that Obama isn’t willing to be respectful of the other party?

McCain is one of the few Republicans I would have no trouble voting for. I said that in 2004 and 2008. He will speak his mind and tell the truth regardless of the political hot water it puts him in.
Aww, now see, that’s the McCain I like seeing. I head somewhere that Wilson did call the White House to apologize for that.
It seems to be a common political maneuver to deliberately commit one sort of faux pas or another, and then to publicly apologize for it. I’ll bet in some cases politicians draft up the apology letter before going before the cameras and mouthing off in the first place.
This way what he’s apologizing for is “speaking his mind.” That’s the part that’s going to get emphasized when it’s election year again. Instead what should be underlined is that he clearly isn’t in possession of the facts. If you’re shouting at the President when he’s addressing the House and you don’t even have the facts on your side…well, you don’t belong in public office.
I think Mika is probably right about that. The thought crossed my mind as well. It’s not party-exclusive either. Throughout the election supporters of Obama would make very radical and inflammatory remarks that Obama would apologize for later. It smacked of political strategy then, and it sounds just the same now.
While I’m not a big Obama fan, I do have to wonder what drugs the politicians in South Carolina are drinking these days? I think it was less embarrassing having Strom Thurmond in Congress.
