Oprah’s Not the Only One

TV icon Oprah Winfrey isn’t the only one who’s planning to put down the microphone to bring a daytime talk show to a close.  Accompanying Winfrey, it has just been announced, is a woman who has been called one of the most annoying people on the tube, although she has a following that is absolutely obsessed with her:Tyra Banks says she’s calling it quits after five seasons.

Last year, her syndicated talk show was doing quite well.  Then she made the decision to pull her show from syndication and move it to the CW Network where it would run in the afternoon for two hours a day, an odd decision that seemed to me at the time to be a really bad idea.

Though she’s not acknowledging low ratings as the reason for the decision, it’s a fact that her show’s ratings don’t compare to syndie top-hitters like Oprah and Dr. Phil.  And whether she admits it or not, the move to CW probably didn’t help her one bit.

Banks will exit the show this spring.  She says she’ll focus on her production company and produce projects to reach “more women and young girls to help us feel as fierce as we truly are.”

Heaven help them.
