The Funniest Reports of the Year

30 December 2009 No Comment

BuzzFeed has released its list of the 15 funniest news reports of 2009.  Their top pick is definitely one I agree with.  The story about a string of black bear sightings went viral shortly after it originally aired on WJW in Cleveland.  It was a very creative way of telling a video story about black bears when there are none anywhere around.

You gotta love the line at about 1:06 in.

But as funny as some of these oddball stories can be, none compares with this one from 2008, from WWBT-TV in Richmond.  They were covering the search for a pet monkey that had apparently bitten a young girl at a park.  Just by wild coincidence, a news crew from the station was there at a community event on the same day the bite occurred.  While they didn’t get the bite on tape, the camera just happened to pan across the crowd and caught a few frames of a woman walking around with a monkey on her shoulder.

It was a lucky shot, to say the least.  But as you’ll see after the jump, hilarity ensues as they try to tell the story.

Anchors Sabrina Squire and Gene Cox, who hold a record in Richmond for having worked together longer than anyone else, along with reporter Curt Autry, can’t keep their composure.
