Comic Gilbert Gottfried, whose voice could easily make him one of the world’s most distinctive-sounding, if not annoying, people, has been dismissed by Aflac for posts on his Twitter account.

Gottfried allegedly posted a series of tweets — which have since been removed — that made light of the earthquake and tsunami tragedy in Japan. Unfortunately for Gottfried, 75% of the company’s business is done in…you guessed it…Japan, where one in four homes buys health insurance from Aflac.

Good for Aflac for taking a stand to right what they considered a wrong.

At the same time, they hired a comedian to voice their duck. Comedians make fun of everything, tastefully or not, necessarily or not. It’s just what they do.

There’s no word on who they’ll replace him with, but if they’re afraid of offending someone, they should probably disqualify anyone who’s ever worked in a nightclub.

Just sayin’.
