Facebook Changes Users’ Email Addresses on Profiles

Did your email address listed on your Facebook profile change without any notice? If so, you’re apparently not alone.

Facebook users are reporting that the email addresses listed on their profiles were quietly switched to lesser-know, rarely-used Facebook email accounts. If your username on Facebook, for example, is JohnQSmith, whatever your email had been, it may now be listed as JohnQSmith@facebook.com on your Facebook profile.

What’s worse, it appears that when someone uses that email address to reach out to you, their communication doesn’t appear as an incoming message but rather is routed to an “Other” folder under the messages tab that a lot of people (including me) didn’t even know existed.

As many times as Facebook has caught heat from angry users about making changes without notice, this one is truly mind-boggling. It’d be one thing if messages sent to the Facebook email account would actually show up as if someone had sent you an instant message so that you’d actually know you’d received one.

But to switch your primary displayed email contact address without telling anyone it was happening and to change it to an address that is harder to deal with is a horrible mistake.

The only good news is that this setting is easily changed back to whatever you had. Here are the instructions from Mashable for fixing the problem.
