Bloggab Going on Hiatus

Last Updated on February 12, 2022

Bloggab, my weekly Twitter chat on personal blogging, is going on hiatus effective this week.

More than two years ago, in March of 2013, I started a weekly Twitter chat called Bloggab. The focus was on personal blogging, as opposed to blogging for business. I wanted to make the distinction not because I had anything against business blogging per se, but because it seems many of the other chats about blogging sometimes focus a bit too much on the business side of things.

Let’s face it: many of us who blog would love to be earning revenue from doing so. But we’re not. (At least, we’re not so far.)

So a lot of time spent on “building leads” and “achieving conversions” becomes a bit premature. In other words, we’re not, for whatever reason, there, yet.

For two years now, I’ve tried to come up with topics I hoped everyone would find useful. I’ve brought in a handful of guests over that time who graciously agreed to give up part of their evening to impart their wisdom on the rest of us.

But after two years — that’s more than 100 chats — finding topics and finding speakers who are able to talk with authority on those topics can be a challenge. Not only that, there’s the equally important fact that the number of participants seems to have dropped over time. I realize that Monday nights at 9 p.m. Eastern is a time when several other chats are going on. But this was true of the chat’s original time slot of Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Eastern.

In fact, there’s almost no time slot where another chat isn’t happening that someone wants to attend. So part of the question about the future of the chat is whether it’s better as a chat on a different day of the week, a different time of day, or even a different format altogether.

I don’t have those answers, yet. But I’ll be pondering those questions. In the meantime, I want to thank those of you who’ve taken part in the chat, whether it has been from the beginning or as recently as this past week. I am deeply grateful for your generous attention.

Also, I wanted to point out three other blogging-related chats you should definitely check out.

First, there’s #Blogchat. I’m sure you’ve heard of it, but in case you somehow have missed it, it’s run by Mack Collier every Sunday night at 9 p.m. I’m a regular attendee of that chat, so be sure to join me there.

On Monday nights at 9 p.m., (the same time #Bloggab has been for a while now), there’s #BlogTrends. It is designed primarily for beauty, lifestyle, and fashion bloggers, but I’m none of the above and have still learned important information at the chat.

On Tuesday nights at 10 p.m., you can take part in #BlogElevated, a chat run out of Houston but open to bloggers everywhere and always full of great advice.

In the meantime, you can read up on old editions of #Bloggab at Storify (for the first year or so) or on Nurph (for most of the rest). The chats that aren’t on either, unfortunately, are still orbiting in cyberspace somewhere.

In the meantime, the #Bloggab hashtag can be used outside of the old chat window. Who knows? It could even become a hashtag like #UsGuys where conversations are always happening.
