Some bloggers love to make blogging resolutions for the new year. I don’t, but for this year, I’ll make an exception.
There were originally two resolutions I considered making for 2016.
The first was that I wouldn’t sweat it if I missed a day’s post occasionally.
I’ve been posting once a day, every day for for a while now. I’m not entirely certain when the daily posting began, but it’s been a while now. I could look it up, but it isn’t that important. Suffice it to say, it has been going on long enough now that the thought of missing a day’s post is just unacceptable at this point.
Perhaps, the more honest explanation is that I’m too stubborn to miss a post because it would feel to me like I’d had some sort of failure.
I don’t delude myself into thinking that most of the folks who stop by this blog in a month’s time would even notice if an occasional day came and went without a new post. But I’d notice, and that’s enough, for now, to make me keep going. (I’ll keep pondering this one…perhaps by the end of this year, I can offer this as a blogging resolution for 2017!)
So of all the possible blogging resolutions, here’s mine for the new year.
I’ve talked before about how an editorial calendar can help you plan posts. Well, in 2016, I want to make better use of mine.
My goal is to try to regularly be at least two posts ahead. Some bloggers are further ahead than that, but then some of those bloggers may only post two or three times per week, not daily.
Still, if I can maintain a two-day lead on blog posts (at minimum), that should remove at least a little of the deadline pressure and give me a bit more time to brainstorm post ideas and let those ideas “simmer” a bit more before clicking that Publish button. There’s also the other huge advantage of writing a couple of posts ahead: if I have a great post idea that can’t wait, I can always reschedule a previously completed post for a later date and be that much more ahead.
So that’s my goal for 2016.
