Comment System Upgraded

Based on some recent problems getting certain comments to appear, I have returned to Intense Debate as a comment management system for the blog. A while back I tried Intense Debate and it didn’t work as well as I hoped it would.

Since then, I’ve learned that Intense Debate is now part of WordPress’s parent company, which leads me to believe some issues I had with it might work a little better now.

If you stopped by last night, you might have seen that no comments appeared to be present on any post; now they’re all back and look slightly different. Give this one a shot: leave me a comment on this post and let me know if you have any problems submitting it. They’ll still be subject to moderation, but you should at least be able to leave the comment without error.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will do a better job this time around, and that the recent problems of some legitimate comments being flagged as spam will also disappear.

I’ll keep you posted!

  • It is a shame one must resort to external comment management software. I do hope that WordPress is rapid in the incorporation of the comment engine into the software. It would also be nice if they provided you with access to the Google user database as one of the acceptable ID franchises.

    • Agreed. At this point, I'm most concerned with the ease of posting a comment for my readers, and the reliability from the backend that the comment will actually show up in the moderation queue rather than magically disappearing into the trash without any rhyme or reason.

When it occasionally trashes a comment from someone who's been commenting here for a few years and has NEVER been marked as spam, there's something VERY wrong with their spam controls, and after temporarily deactivating spam-blocking plugins individually to try to figure out which one might be the culprit, I still have no idea where the problem is.
