While having coffee with a friend of mine Saturday morning, I heard one of the girls behind the counter at the coffee shop tell the other, “B-R-B.”
She actually said the letters out loud.
While I understand that “BRB” is much faster than typing the words “be right back,” it’s almost moronic to use them in verbal communication, since both have exactly the same number of syllables.
To make matters worse, the girl to whom she was speaking wasn’t familiar with the abbreviation, so Miss Lazy had to then stop and explain what she meant, …

If you live anywhere in the southeast and you aren’t a fan of heat and humidity teaming together to create nearly unbearable conditions outside, then you’ll be happy know that summer will soon be over.
But before we bid this ridiculously unpleasant season adieu, take a moment to consider this list of 8 Things to Do Before Summer Ends.
You’ll use them for this week’s question.

There’s always something fun about unsolved mysteries. And for this week’s edition of the Sunday Seven, I have a list of the top 10 historical unsolved mysteries that may help you come up with your answers.
Of the ten mentioned, which ones would you most like the answers to, in order of personal interest?

From the first time I saw the PT Cruiser, I liked the looks of it. But when it comes to classic cars, I really like those old 1940s rounded designs.
Not that there’s anything wrong with the fins of the 1950s, mind you, but I just like that earlier look.
But a new article puts the PT Cruiser in a list of the 50 Ugliest Cars of the Past 50 Years!
There are definitely some deserving nominees on this list: the Pacer, the CitiCar, or the Brat, for example. But …

If you love a variety of interesting scents (and they don’t irritate your allergies), then a place like Yankee Candle might just be for you. They sell many varieties of candles with a nearly-endless selection of fragrances.
I have a couple of scented candles in my apartment, but I rarely burn them. One of my favorites is “Cinnamon Bun.” It does make the place smell like a bakery, without all of the would-be calories.

The other day, I arrived home to find a phone book sitting on the sidewalk outside my door.
I honestly don’t remember the last time I used a phone book. I can look up numbers online, and even on my iPhone just as quickly, plus I get a map showing me exactly where the place I’m calling actually is.
I’m sure there are plenty of people who use phone books today, but it’s a shame you can’t opt out of getting them: I hate to be part of wasting that much …

In 1984, President Reagan went all the way and named July National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday in July to be National Ice Cream Month.
Add to these two pertinent facts the idea that Baskin Robbins this year celebrates its 65th birthday.
It’s a perfect storm of ice cream-related trivia that means that the frozen treat just had to be the topic of this week’s question!

If you’re like me and still plan to be alive and kicking in the year 2050, then you might be interested to know about the results of a new poll that listed things Americans think will have happened by that time.
Among the items mentioned are a cure for cancer, a third world war, artificial limbs that will perform better than their real counterparts and even the return of Jesus Christ.

Earlier in the week, I mentioned a website plugin used by NBC O&Os across the country that allows web readers to instantly give their reaction to individual stories.
It’s a cool idea that I’m trying to adapt here, although in a somewhat more subtle plugin. You’ll see it located at the bottom of this post, and all others. There are seven buttons allowing you to vote for a reaction that’s most applicable to you.
The options I’ve currently selected are “Excited”, “Mad”, “Amused”, “Interested”, “Sad”, “Agreeing” and “Pleased.”
The options the …

I’m always surprised when someone looks at my dog and asks me what breed it is. Granted, the first dog I ever had was a Collie, and I had one other one after high school, so I’ve literally had Collies in my life longer than I haven’t, so I’m naturally biased.
But given the lingering popularity and familiarity with Lassie, I’d think anyone could recognize a full-blooded Collie when they see one.
There are some breeds that are harder to identify right off the top of one’s head. But which …

Huffington Post recently published 24/7 Wall St.’s list of the 11 Brands That Will Disappear in 2011.
Some are companies I’ve heard of and even done business with. Others don’t ring a bell. But you may know more of them than I do. The question is, which would you miss the least?
First to play last week: Cat. of Sweet Memes. Congratulations!
Here is this week’s “Sunday Seven” question. Either answer in a comment here, or put the answers in an entry on your blog (with a link …
