Sunday Seven - Episode 147

You’ve heard Pringle’s Potato Chips’ advertising slogan, “Once you pop, you can’t, you can’t, you can’t stop.” There are several foods like this for me: once I have a taste, I just can’t stop until it’s all gone, or until I go through a phase of having entirely too much of it too often.

I’m sure I’m not the only one when it comes to certain foods.

So I encourage all of you to answer the question, then push yourselves away from the table, or out of that far-too-comfortable easy chair, and exercise for a little while today!

  • First to play last week: Otowi of Otowi. Congratulations!

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
Name seven foods that are tasty enough to wreck your diet.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered “first to play,” a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.) You may include this link in the URL space when leaving your comment, or in the comment itself. As long as it’s there in one spot or the other.

My Answers:
1. Doritos

2. Blue Bunny Bunny Tracks Ice Cream
3. Cheetos
4. Tortilla Chips with Guacamole
5. Cheese Fries (particularly Outback’s)*
6. Hardee’s Monster Burger*
7. Carrot Cake

*I’ve actually had to eliminate #5 and #6 completely from my diet, because they’re so addictive. I haven’t had either in more than a year and a half, and I don’t miss them as much as I thought I would. Now if I could just eliminate #1 and #2….

Sunday Seven - Episode 146

We all have our tools. I’m not talking about those greasy devices that mechanics have on toolbelts. There are basic items that we’d almost feel lost without. Some are high-tech, like our cell phone, and others are low-tech, like a ball-point pen. But there are items that we almost can’t do without (or have at least convinced ourselves that we can’t do without) as we do our normal thing.

I was inspired to post this topic by my friend Rick, who posted a picture of some tools on his desk. Have a look at the picture here, and you might find a few items there that would make your list.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
Name seven everyday “tools” that you use on a daily basis.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered “first to play,” a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.) You may include this link in the URL space when leaving your comment, or in the comment itself. As long as it’s there in one spot or the other.

My Answers:
1. Keys

2. Watch
3. Cell Phone
4. Laptop
5. Remote Control
6. Pen
7. Cup of Coffee (Okay, more than a single cup)

  • First to play last week: Otowi of Otowi. Congratulations!

The 2007-2008 television season has come to a close, and here is a list of the Top 20 shows of the season. You’ll note that in some cases, some shows may be listed more than once: one day’s regularly-scheduled episode may do better than another day’s, and rather than average them together, Nielsen lists the show twice.

You don’t necessarily need that list for this week’s question, because it’s entirely up to you which shows you list, but I thought I’d supply it at least as an idea starter.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
Name your favorite shows of the 2007-2008 TV season.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered “first to play,” a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.) You may include this link in the URL space when leaving your comment, or in the comment itself. As long as it’s there in one spot or the other.

My Answers:
1. The Price is Right

2. CSI:
3. Scrubs
4. Two and a Half Men
5. Law & Order: SVU
6. How I Met Your Mother
7. 60 Minutes

Do you love a room with a view? Depending on where you live, especially if you happen to have located yourself in a big city, you may have a really nice skyline to view.

(Not that there’s anything wrong with a view of a peaceful countryside…I just haven’t found a list for that, yet.)

Here’s a list of the top 15 city skylines along with 15 honorable mentions. (It’s in the right sidebar.)

You’ll need that list for this week’s question.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
Of the thirty cities named in the list of best skylines, name the seven you’d most like to live in.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. 4. Seattle
5. Atlanta
6. Melbourne, Australia
7. Dallas

I’m trying my best to get into house-cleaning mode. And even though the kitchen isn’t the target of my plans today, it still makes a good source of material where the Sunday Seven is concerned. The contents of your refrigerator alone could fuel several weeks’ worth of questions.

Like the one below.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
Name the seven oldest items in the door of your refrigerator.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered “first to play,” a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.) What big companies do you admire? Here is a list of the Top 20 Most Admired American Companies as compiled by Fortune magazine.

I know, I know…for some of you, that’s a loaded question. You hate all big companies; you only like mom and pop outfits that don’t want to make a profit.

But there are some big companies that you probably still like or admire something about, whether it’s their products, their service, or their charitable activities.

That’s the topic of this week’s question.

  • First to play last week: Donna of Just Me. Congratulations!

This week we’re doing something a little different. I’m going to give you the first seven letters of the alphabet, and you’re going to give me the name of either a blogger you visit often whose name starts with that letter, or a blog you visit whose title starts with that letter.

One of the blogs I’ve visited the longest, for example, is Carly’s blog, “Ellipsis…Suddenly Carly.” So in my case, I could list her with the “C” in Carly or the “E” in “Ellipsis.” And because I remember her AOL user name, through which she blogged the original version of “Ellipsis,” I could have listed her under “O” if that were one of this week’s options. Simple enough, right?

That’s the topic of this week’s question.

  • First to play last week: Otowi of Otowi. Congratulations!

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
List either the name of a favorite blogger or their blog’s title that begins with the first letter of each of the first seven letters of the alphabet.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered “first to play,” a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.) With Spring just around the corner, a good, traditional Spring cleaning can’t be too far behind. But before you go to the grocery store to load up on sprays, gels and pastes to make your home look as good as new, you might save yourself some money by taking a quick inventory of what’s already in your cleaning arsenal.

That’s the topic of this week’s question.

  • First to play last week: Connie of This is Connie. Paul was first-to-play for the second week in a row! Congratulations!

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
Name seven already-open cleaning products you already have on hand in your home right now.

Sunday Seven - Episode 136

Friday was the 40th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

For the past few days, the media has been covering aspects of King’s life and death, and you have no doubt heard snippets from the many famous speeches he made, including the one made shortly before his death, with haunting words that seemed to predict his own pending demise that was then just hours away.

Dr. King left a legacy of hope that still endures, and a gift of his powerful words for generations to come. Finding your single favorite King quotation may be a challenge itself, but do you think you could pick your top seven favorites from a list? Here’s a list that might help you find many from which to select.

My favorite, incidentally, speaks to me about the reality that there are so many legions of good people who are more content to sit back and do nothing, while the more vocal extremists of both sides fight their battles, accomplishing little except increasing hostilities that only result in the needed change not happening.  That’s an important thing to keep in mind, I think, regardless of the subject of the argument.

Get ready…that’s this week’s challenge.

  • First to play last week: Paul of Aurora Walking Vacation. Paul was first-to-play for the second week in a row! Congratulations!

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION:
Choose your seven favorite quotations from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Either answer the question in a comment or answer it in your journal and include the link in a comment. (To be considered “first to play,” a link must be to the specific entry in which you answered the question.) You may include this link in the URL space when leaving your comment, or in the comment itself. As long as it’s there in one spot or the other.

My Answers:
1. “History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.”

2. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
3. “A right delayed is a right denied.”
4. “All progress is precarious, and the solution of one problem brings us face to face with another problem.”
5. “Everything that we see is a shadow cast by that which we do not see.”
6. “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.”
7. “An individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.”

Ever counted how many ice cream flavors there are out there? It’s amazing. There is just about every conceivable variety already invented, yet they keep coming up with more flavor options.

You don’t have to use all seven, but if you were asked to choose seven ingredients that you might use in the ultimate flavor, which would you choose? That’s this week’s challenge.
