The Religion Test

Last Updated on July 16, 2016

Religion is a touchy subject.&nbsp  Occasionally, I’ll deal with religious issues that I want to discuss. I’m not a religious zealot, and I’m not trying to convert anyone with this blog.

I know that there are some people completely turned off by such topics. If you’re one of them, don’t worry: you’ll find plenty of other topics here. You don’t have to agree with me on religion, and I don’t have to agree with you. One day, most likely on the day of our death, we’ll find out who was really right. As it is, I’m confident enough that my religious views are right for me, thank you.

So I begin with this: I found a religion test on Dave’s journal and decided to give it a try. The test promises to give you the religion that is the best match to your personal views after 20 simple multiple choice questions.

Here are my results:

According to the SelectSmart.com Belief System Selector, my #1 belief match is Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants.

Here’s more about this branch of religion, according to the site:

Also sometimes referred to as secular, modern, or humanistic. This is an umbrella term for Protestant denominations, or churches within denominations, that view the Bible as the witness of God rather than the word of God, to be interpreted in its historical context through critical analysis. Examples include some churches within Anglican/Episcopalian, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Unitarian, United Church of Christ. There are more than 2,000 Protestant denominations offering a wide range of beliefs from extremely liberal to mainline to ultra conservative and those that include characteristics on both ends.

It would appear that much like my political views, I’m not an extremist even within the Protestant faith. I’m actually satisfied that this represents my views fairly accurately.

  • WOW – I am the daughter of a United Methodist Minister, brought up in a Southern Baptist community, have chosen the Anglican Communion for myself (Episcopalian), and I scored 100% on Reformed Judaism. Hmmmm…..

  • Quaker Orthodox…. that scared me until I read the description… it actually fits me…. it sounds worse than it is…lol

  • Personally I feel that we’re being tested on Earth to find out who is worthy to be in the presence of God, who truly loves Him, after death.

We’re born in the flesh, with freewill to decide the path of our life. If you have to make someone love you it’s not real, so we’re free to make a choice. Love comes from within the spirit–how do you scientifically define love?

Doesn’t love exist even though you can’t see it?

You’re right, Patrick, we’ll find out who is right when we die.

  • Hey, Patrick … I, too, found out that I am Mainline-Liberal Christian Protestant. I didn’t find this surprising, even though I belong to a Roman Catholic church. I think it just shows me that even within our own religion, we can disagree on some things, and still have a connection. I am looking forward to reading the new journal ….. Good luck with it! • I write about religion all the time in my journal and other than a couple of times, I’ve never been treated with anything less than kindness and respect. I haven’t taken the test yet, but I place myself in the mainline to liberal Protestant Christian sector. I’m going to be interested in seeing this journal develop.

  • Hey Pat! Great idea. I’m a 100% Theravadin Buddhist. No surprise there. What was surprising is that the test was able to accurately determine this in only 20 multiple choice questions. I’m ranking this up there with Politcalcompass.org as one of the best ‘tests’ out there.

I look forward to seeing what you write in here.
