One of its shows, The Young and the Restless, already received a multi-season renewal that spans into next season. ‘Y&R’ is currently daytime’s number one soap. It’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, which is the most-watched soap in the world (if you can imagine) is also getting the nod.
Game shows The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal, hosted by Drew Carey and Wayne Brady, respectively, and chatfest The Talk will also be back.
It’s good news for soap fans, who’ve seen the number of soap operas steadily declining over the past few years. It wasn’t that long ago that soaps and games filled all of the networks’ lineups. Today, we’re down to just four network soaps.
The Price is Right is celebrating its 40th year this year, despite the fact that some diehard fans predicted it would never survive the retirement of longtime host Bob Barker at the end of its 35th season.
The only remaining network soap, General Hospital, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 1st, but there’s no official word from ABC whether it will come back for next season, although that network didn’t renew ‘GH’ until April of last year.
