Is it just me or are there a lot fewer Christmas cards in your stack of holiday mail this year?
I received less than half the number of Christmas cards I received just last year.  Maybe the fact that mailing a card now costs 44 ¢ has something to do with it.  This is certainly a year in which no one can be blamed for cutting expenses.
But has the concept of Christmas cards really become outdated in a world that relies so much more on cellular phones, email and text messages?
It occurs to me that I may not have sent as many myself last year, which begs another question: have rising costs made reciprosity a requirement for sending a card?  If you send one this year, and you don’t get one from that person, are they automatically off your list in ’10?

I can’t imagine not sending Christmas cards. It’s an annual ritual that helps put me in the holiday mood. I make the cards myself and usually have them done by November, because I am too excited to send them out. I don’t mind if people I know don’t send me a card in return, it doesn’t matter, although it is always nice to receive a card. Nobody gets removed from my list based on not sending me a card in return.
If your card meets certain dimensional requirements, a 28-cent stamp will suffice.
Hi Patrick
MERRY CHRISTMAS! 🙂
Ummm… I have made myself a promise to NOT send anymore holiday cards. It’s not that I don’t care about the holidays, or love my friends, it just that enough is enough. Alan and I simply don’t have the money to do things the way we used to, thanks to the furloughs and the loss of $700 per month. My real friends know I love them, and anyway, most of them are in the same boat. I would feel like I let my friends down, if they all felt they had to send me a card during the holiday season just to prove how much they care. Enough already. Wish me well from whereever you are and I will get the karma you send all the way over here. 🙂
MERRY CHRISTMAS My friend… and hugs to the pups from their Auntie Carly 🙂
Makes perfect sense to me, my friend!
Merry Christmas to you, too! And here’s to a happier 2010 for all of us!
