The Soap Sliver Lifehack

These days, we all want to get the most bang for our buck on any product we buy. Even when it’s something as relatively inexpensive as bar soap.

But what do you do when that bar of soap becomes more along the lines of a sliver?

Believe it or not, you don’t have to allow it to slowly disintegrate in the soap dish beneath a new bar of soap, thereby losing the handful of cents that sliver would be worth.

Someone — someone who clearly has a lot of time on his or her hands — came up with a clever “lifehack” to deal with just such a crisis. Crisis? Well, apparently it was enough of a crisis to somebody for them to have figured this out!

All you have to do, they say, is take that sliver of soap and stick it to the new bar that will replace it.

It’s best if you make sure both pieces of soap are wet, and since the sliver is a sliver, it’s more likely to be easier to shape to the bigger, newer bar. If you can press the two in place and hold them together for a bit, there’s a good chance the sliver will indeed stick. You can then use the new bar as a “handle” for what’s left of the old bar, getting every last fraction of a cent out of that old bar of soap.

Talk about First World problems!

But I will admit, when I heard of this, I did try it, out of curiosity more than anything else, but also because I knew I was planning to do a blog post about this “soap sliver lifehack.” It does work, although at first, the sliver will slide off of the newer soap if you scrub too aggressively with it. Otherwise, it actually does work, and it might give you at least another couple of days of use of the little piece of soap you might otherwise allow to slide down the drain.

Have you ever heard of this lifehack before? Have you ever tried it?
