Would You ‘Join’ A Community Just to Comment on a Blog?

UPDATED: I am trying out the Livefyre comment system. &nbsp I’ve heard many good things about it, including its ability, presumably, to keep the conversation going with its realtime comments and immediate notifications (if you allow them) when someone responds to what you have to say.

There’s just one problem I have with it: &nbsp to comment on a blog that has Livefyre installed, you either have to comment using a social media network login you already have, like Twitter or Facebook, or you have to register for a Livefyre account.

Registering for your own Livefyre account takes about 10 seconds. It’s super-easy as registrations go.

How do you, as my reader, feel about something like this? &nbsp Would you voluntarily comment through a social media account here, or would you be willing to join such a community just to comment, or is that too much to ask?

Two comments have been posted below, and both came as responses on Twitter, and were cross-posted here. &nbsp Both of them made it clear that forcing any kind of registration is a turn-off. &nbsp One commenter even guaranteed that I’d see fewer comments. &nbsp But seeing fewer comments is barely an option based on my more recent track record. &nbsp There are so few now, that it may be worth trying anything that might in some way generate more.

  • Reduced to Internet via smartphone with a connection speed disturbingly similar to a 1200 baud modem (where did I put that leisure suit?) ANYTHING which forces additional keystrokes is verboten. Even nice blogs like yours.

  • Requiring a login will reduce the number of comments you get. I’d almost guarantee it.
