Last week, I posted a clip from an old episode of The Jack Benny Program featuring Jack with guest star Gisele MacKenzie.
It seemed to get some good reviews, so I thought I’d attempt to make something of a regular feature out of this. Thanks to YouTube, people across the globe have been posting uncounted treasures just waiting to be watched again and again.
(Actually, I’m sure someone at YouTube does count them, but I’ll leave that to them!)
This week’s clip comes from the game show that I ranked as the second-greatest of all time, Match Game. It was hosted by zany Gene Rayburn, who described himself as a “free spirit” who wasn’t crazy about Mark Goodson’s orders to focus on the game not the comedy. You never knew what Rayburn (or the celebrities on the panel, for that matter) might do or say.
This clip is a blooper: as wild a show as Match Game was, even it couldn’t get away with this slip of the tongue. Listen carefully as Rayburn introduces a new contestant, Karen Lesko. He meant to complement her on her bright smile and cute dimples.
But somehow, that’s not what he actually said!
