A Word from the Opposition

Last Updated on January 1, 2013

Some people aren’t happy unless they’re trying to spread their unhappiness around…we all know that. So it didn’t surprise me at all when there was this comment left at one of my AOL journals when I mentioned that it would be disappearing soon:

Most of who are leaving WON’T be missed and I say GOOD dam RIDDANCE!!Time for fresh writers, with fresh life in them not overbloated egos and opinions!Trimming the deadwood is necessary sometimes!Yall have fun in your little hovel your creating I won’t visit anyone not in J-land . soon you will dislike your new place too, losers all of you! Never have I seen such a bunch of ninnies!Don’t let that door hit your azzz, now all guys can all sit around basking in each others egos giving each other awards for butt kissing (happily waving bye!!) DON’T COME BACK YA HEAR!!

And she thinks those who are leaving are the ones with the ego problems?? Wow.

Fortunately, the majority of those who have a space in AOL Journals don’t parade their self-righteousness around this way, and certainly don’t treat their fellow journal writers this way. But as I let this person know in an email, those of us who have decided that it’s time to leave — and that is our business — certainly won’t miss people who behave like this.

If “trimming the deadwood” means that more of them will be allowed to flourish, AOL Journals is going to need a lot more help than I thought!

  • Oh that had to be the same little twit leaving similar comments all over the place, just as she did when she was whining about the ViVis and how just totally icky they were, most likely cause nobody nominated her juvenile blog for one. I don’t normally want to bitch-slap people, but for her I will make an exception. I’m right, aren’t I Patrick? Her name starts with J and she lives on the west coast. I’m right, aren’t I? Her illiteracy gives her away, even when you protect her from her own stupidity.

If you want to delete this comment, you can. But I’ve just had enough of these idiots.

  • Hello Patrick.. wow, I’m glad I found you again!! I’ve been reading here and catching up.. excellent insight to the problems, I must say.
I’m new to journaling and “not a writer” but i already had my nice little list of journals i read each day, like yours. I agree they will never take down the banner.. heck it’s paid for, they aren’t about to give the money back! lol.. that would be bad business. I hope the day comes though that they at least show an attempt to make their journal folks happy again.. maybe add a “hide” button to the had like Yahoo Geocites does, or make the ad smaller and NOT ANIMATED.. something to indicate they value the journaling customer.. oh well, we’ll see i guess.
I’ve now bookmarked you so I can return on a daily basis like I had been doing.. I hope you do the Saturday Six from here too!!

  • Hi Patrick

One more reason to leave my little journal all closed up nice and tight, so that I wouldn’t have to deal with someone who doesn’t even know me, being mean in the comments. I made my journal a fun place as much as I could, and I wanted to keep that feeling after I left. I don’t really understand the hostility. I think I am kinda glad I don’t. Sigh. Shrug.

    Always, Carly

  • sad!
sad that some keep them selves so well insulated.
some of my favorite J-Land expatriots are those who turned me on to blogs outside our little world.
There are nice, friendly folks cross town who make the grumpy lady living down the street seem evil.

  • Who pissed in her cheerios? Geesh. Anyhoo…I love blogspot. I have had my Nascar blog on here for a while. I think I may keep my personal one here too.

  • It just proves my point: The most hateful people seem to be the most illiterate.

We all have a choice, and I don’t condemn the people who choose to stay on AOL despite the ad banners. I hope people can extend that same respect to me.

  • Sad how people think that the world revolves around them! I’m starting to like this new home better – i don’t feel like “big brother” is peaking over my shoulder waiting for me to post something inappropriate.

  • Sorry to see you go from AOL, but I’ve found you here, along with your other blogs. I’ll keep following along. I’m staying put for now. I’m not a paid subscriber to AOL, there by way of AIM. So….I’ll support those who move on and those who stay. Who knows, I may change my mind too. I’ll keep reading you! De 😉

  • Patrick,

I’m happy to find you on blogspot, and I agree with what you’ve written in this post. I also agree with Donna; couldn’t you do the Saturday Six from here? I, for one, would be happy to post Saturday Six as a title again on an entry.

    Thanks for listening.

  • Ya I think people that talk like that are really just full of themselves….why would they care if people are leaving if they didn’t like those journals to begin with…doesn’t make sense to me.

  • I don’t read the journals of people with that sort of attitude. I still preferred it when we were all on AOL, but I’m just glad I can come here to read the journals of my favorites who left. I will admit I’m finding some new, interesting journals on AOL, as I try to fill the gap.

Say, couldn’t you do Patrick’s Saturday Six from here, just the same as you did on AOL?
