Next #Bloggab: Your Writing Process Before You Publish

UPDATE: Transcript here.

If someone were to watch you produce a new post — from the initial idea to the moment you hit ‘Publish’ — what would that process look like?

If you were part of last week’s #Bloggab chat, or if you attempted to be, I first want to thank you. Twitter was having some kind of major issue that even seemed to affect its own TweetDeck. The issue extended to almost all of the third-party Twitter-chat platforms like TweetChat, TweetGrid and OneQube, appearing as a lag of up to 45-60 minutes from the time you posted a tweet to the time it actually showed up. I was tempted to call off the chat after seeing the issue causing major problems at a chat I frequent immediately before #Bloggab, but I have some determined chatters and thanks to them, we were able to get through. If you weren’t able to join in, check out the transcript for last week’s chat on “Things No Blog Should Be Without.”

This week’s #Bloggab on Twitter (Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET) focuses on how you create posts for your blog. I suspect that no two bloggers have exactly the same writing process. Some of us will be hit with an idea and we’ll jump right in, composing a post immediately and publishing at once. Others like to sit on a topic for a few hours, or even a few days or weeks, letting the idea simmer a while before we ever write the first word.

And some of us do a mix, committing some posts to your blog right away while you ponder others in the background.

How much to you edit once the post seems ready to go? Do you reread a few times? How focused is your proofreading? Do you depend on plugins for that, or do you love to copyedit your writing the old-fashioned way? I bet no two bloggers do that the same way, either!

So think about what would make up a “typical” post on your blog, then start thinking about what it takes to get that typical post actually on your blog. We want to hear your blogging ideas for composing and writing your posts at this week’s edition of #Bloggab.

Join us Tuesday night at 9 p.m. ET!
