Saturday Six #424

saturday six

I hope your holiday weekend is off to a great start, and I’m glad you decided to make the Saturday Six part of it!

Be sure to check back this week and click on the links of bloggers who play along in the comments below! It’s a great way to find blogs you may not have visited and keep the conversation going!

Here are this week’s “Saturday Six” questions. Either answer the questions in a comment here, or put the answers in an entry on your blog… But don’t forget to leave a link to your blog so that everyone else can visit! Permission is not granted to copy the questions to message boards for the purpose of having members answer and play along there. Enjoy!

1. What is your favorite holiday of the year?

2. What is your least favorite holiday of the year?

3. Which holiday strikes you as the most somber?

4. Which holiday seems the most festive, even if it isn’t your favorite?

5. How likely are you to intentionally wear green on St. Patrick’s Day?

6. Which holiday that isn’t currently on your workplace’s list of official company holidays would you most like to add?

If you have a Reader’s Choice question you’d like to see asked (and answered), send me an email! I’d love to include it in a future edition of the Saturday Six.

  1. Wow!  There is not much St. Paddy’s Day love going on here!  🙂

    My answers:
    1. Favorite Holiday: Christmas
    2. Least Favorite: Valentine’s Day
    3. Most Somber: Probably Memorial Day
    4. Most Festive: Christmas, but I agree it’s entirely too commercial.
    5. Intentionally wear green on St. Patrick’s Day: When your name is Patrick, you pretty much have to.
    6. Holiday You’d Like Off From Work: Boxing Day. We generally get the Friday after Thanksgiving, but the day after Christmas would definitely be a good one to have as well, plus that’d mean we’d have that much shorter of a workweek between Christmas and New Year’s!

  2. 1. What is your favorite holiday of the year?

Thanksgiving.  It is simple, it brings family together, and it has a good purpose.

    2. What is your least favorite holiday of the year?

Valentine’s Day.  It is just a commercial guilt-trip exercise.

    3. Which holiday strikes you as the most somber?

    Ashura, followed by Memorial Day.

    4. Which holiday seems the most festive, even if it isn’t your favorite?

    Christmas.

    5. How likely are you to intentionally wear green on St. Patrick’s Day?

I’m a teacher.  If it falls on a school day I’ll try to remember to wear green so some student doesn’t try to pinch me.

    6. Which holiday that isn’t currently on your workplace’s list of official company holidays would you most like to add?

Maybe election day so it is easier to get to the polls, although most voting is mail-in these days anyway.  Or Cesar Chavez day, but it is usually very close to Spring Break.  Patriots Day is I think redundant, but the date/time of year is a good one for a holiday.

  3. 1.  Halloween!  I always loved dressing up as a child and I still love the holiday now!
    2. Um…  This is a tough one as I generally enjoy most holidays.  I guess I’ll say Valentine’s Day as we don’t really do anything for that day
    3. Memorial day – which is how it should be.
    4. Independence day is so festive because of the fireworks! Christmas can be festive if you aren’t too busy rushing around from one place to another to enjoy it.
    5. I generally do.  We have no idea where, exactly, our ancestors came from but I could be Irish!  *shrugs*
    6. Boxing day!  Some other countries – like the UK and Canada – have the day after Christmas off work as well as Christmas and I’d really enjoy having that day, too!  Sometimes we need an extra day to recover!

  4. 1. What is your favorite holiday of the year? Thanksgiving

    2. What is your least favorite holiday of the year? Valentine’s Day – Hallmark Holiday

    3. Which holiday strikes you as the most somber? Yom Kippur

    4. Which holiday seems the most festive, even if it isn’t your favorite? Christmas

    5. How likely are you to intentionally wear green on St. Patrick’s Day? I always where the shamrock pin I bought at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, but I don’t wear green.

    6. Which holiday that isn’t currently on your workplace’s list of official company holidays would you most like to add?  President’s Day. Now I go from January 2nd to Memorial Day without a company paid holiday, and it would be great to break up that stretch.

  5. 1. What is your favorite holiday of the year?
    Christmas.

    2. What is your least favorite holiday of the year?
    St. Patrick’s Day.

    3. Which holiday strikes you as the most somber?
Independence Day, which for us Finns is in December.

    4. Which holiday seems the most festive, even if it isn’t your favorite?
    Midsummer Day.

    5. How likely are you to intentionally wear green on St. Patrick’s Day?
    Never have, never will.

    6. Which holiday that isn’t currently on your workplace’s list of official company holidays would you most like to add?
I don’t think there is one.

  6. 1. Christmas
    2. 4th of July (I’m not a fan of fireworks)
    3. Memorial Day
    4. A tie between 4th of July and New Year’s Eve.
    5. Not very likely.
    6. I no longer can work so this doesn’t apply to me. However, when I did work, I say July 4th.
