Sunday Seven #373

Which apps do you use most often on your phone or tablet? Mashable just released a list of the 10 Most Popular iPhone Apps of 2012. To their surprise — and most everyone else’s, given the trouble it experienced, Apple Maps not only made the list, but ranked #1!

When I’m relying on a map-based app, I generally use Mapquest. But recently, it gave me bum directions to a road it couldn’t even find, so I turned to Apple Maps, and despite all the jeers from critics who are only too delighted to discover any mistake Apple makes, their app got me exactly where I needed to go.

Some of the apps I use most often made the cut; others didn’t. Here what my list would look like:

My 7 Most-Used Apps in 2012

1. Clock
The basic “Clock” app is my backup alarm clock.

2. Mail
I check mail on my phone entirely too much. There, I admit it.

3. Calendar
I keep track of meetings and appointments on the “Calendar” app. I also schedule little reminders for things I have to get done before the end of the day. (I realize I could use a separate task list app for that, but when I can place it all in one place, why not?

4. Twitter
The main thing I use Twitter’s app for is checking for interactions and responding.

5. Facebook
I don’t check Facebook via iPhone/iPad as often, because I usually have it open at work. (One of my many roles is in assisting with social media, so I have a valid excuse.)

6. Evernote/span>
Particularly on the iPad, I use Evernote to write drafts of blog posts as well as important notes and letters. If you haven’t tried Evernote, I highly recommend it. (And it’s free.)

7. Kindle
I use the Kindle app far more than I pick up an actual book these days. But I’m not complaining: the technology makes transporting books easier, which makes me more likely to read when I have a few minutes of video rendering to do.

So here’s your chance. To play along, list your answers in a comment with this post, or post them on your own blog and comment here with the link to your post. That way more people get to see your blog!
Which apps would you say you use most often?

  • I have an Android phone, not an iPhone, but there are plenty of apps for Androids, too!  These are the ones I use most frequently:
    1. My Fitness Pal is an app I use daily to track what I eat
    2. My clock – which is also my alarm in the morning
    3. Facebook for Android- Yes, I’ll admit it.  I check my Facebook on my phone periodically -especially when I’m at work where that social network is blocked.
    4. Twitter – I don’t usually check this as often at work but I do while I’m watching certainly television shows or sporting events.  It’s fun to interact with others watching the same thing.
    5. Navigation – I use this all the time to get to places I’m not familiar with!
    6. Ebay – I’ve been watching the bidding and sales of certain items on Ebay recently so I can “watch” items on the app and it will tell me when they are closing!
    7. Candy Crush Saga – This is my guilty pleasure.  It’s a Facebook game that I can also play on my phone.
