Trivial Ten #17

It’s time for another collection of news items, articles and posts from across the internet. Last week, I didn’t do a Trivial Ten because I was focused (as much as possible) on Grammar Week. It’s good to be back on schedule with another round of random links…so let’s get started!

1. The Big 4-0: While younger people might laugh at the primitive graphics, the Atari 2600 was the start of video game love for many in my age group. And yes, the shock of the week is that the company turned 40 this week! Ouch.

2. In the Dark: A funny thing happened to CBS’s Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson on Wednesday night: they lost power, forcing them to do the show with temporary lighting. The problem? A transformer blew hours before the scheduled taping, shorting out the lighting grid in the studio. There’s a link to a clip of it here.

3. The Best Policy: Yes, I mean honesty. A Tennessee man found a paper bag containing $13,000 sitting on top of a trash can. He says it never crossed his mind to keep it. &nbsp It would definitely have crossed my mind. But I still would have done what he ended up doing.

4. Gone Tomorrow: There was a time when television cast changes could still take an audience by surprise. These days, by the time a performer or presenter actually makes things “official,” it’s practically old news. So I’m sure you already know about Ann Curry’s tearful farewell from NBC’s Today.

5. Valor Verdict: If you were among many ticked off by the Supreme Court decision on the health care bill nicknamed “Obamacare,” you may be just as angry about what the high court did with a bill designed to punish those who claimed having received a military honor.

6. Music Makeover: iTunes seems to be one of the few highly popular programs that hasn’t undergone any major overhauls, making it easy for people to be comfortable with the service without ever being caught off guard by big changes. Yes, you know where this is going.

7. Social Citizenship: Here’s a list of 50 Ways to be a Good Social Media Citizen. Wow. Fifty? I doubt most people will ever make it to the bottom of that list.

8. Before Breakfast: Here’s a much smaller list of 5 Things the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast. Yeah, yeah, get your mind out of the gutter, people. One of the things I like to do most before breakfast is think about what I’m going to eat.

9. Facebook Fashion: You’ll love this collection of Facebook-themed t-shirts. But which one would you most likely choose to wear?

10. Fowl Ball: You’ve seen dogs play fetch before. But how about a goose?&nbsp  Have a look at the video! (Thanks to my friend Mika for the suggestion for this one!)
