CBS Renews Its Entire Daytime Lineup

Weeks after NBC renewed its only soap, CBS has gone one step further, announcing that it’s renewing its entire daytime lineup for the 2013-2014 season.

Sort of.

One of its shows, The Young and the Restless, already received a multi-season renewal that spans into next season. ‘Y&R’&nbsp is currently daytime’s number one soap. It’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, which is the most-watched soap in the world (if you can imagine) is also getting the nod.

Game shows The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal, hosted by Drew Carey and Wayne Brady, respectively, and chatfest The Talk will also be back.

It’s good news for soap fans, who’ve seen the number of soap operas steadily declining over the past few years. It wasn’t that long ago that soaps and games filled all of the networks’ lineups. Today, we’re down to just four network soaps.

The Price is Right is celebrating its 40th year this year, despite the fact that some diehard fans predicted&nbsp it would never survive the retirement of longtime host Bob Barker at the end of its 35th season.

The only remaining network soap, General Hospital, will celebrate its 50th anniversary on April 1st, but there’s no official word from ABC whether it will come back for next season, although that network didn’t renew ‘GH’ until April of last year.

Your Turn:
Are you a soap fan or a game show fan? What’s your all-time favorite of each?

I’m a huge game show fan. It’s no big surprise that TPIR was renewed–as long as it’s been running, I think the outcry over its cancellation would be deafening. LMAD getting renewed is good, because there are too few daytime game shows as it is, especially on network television (Family Feud, Jeopardy!, and Millionaire are all syndicated if I remember correctly.)

FYI, your Twitter sharing button isn’t working.

wonderoftech Thanks for letting me know. Twitter had some issues this morning, about the time you tried to use it. It appears to be working now, though. If you try to share and it stops working again, please let me know and I’ll get back in touch with Shareaholic! 🙂

patricksplace wonderoftech I just tested it and my tweet went out just fine. Thanks for fixing it.

Hi Patrick, This is indeed great news for soap fans. ABC made a big mistake two years ago in canceling All My Children and One Life to Live. I hope that Prospect Park is very successful in bringing back these shows to Hulu and iTunes.
