10 Grocery Items I Try Never to Run Out Of
Do you ever feel like there are certain grocery items that are always on your shopping list or that you keep a big supply of on hand?
There are certain grocery items I try to make sure I never run completely out of. In fact, I had the idea of making this post when I was making up my latest grocery store shopping list!
I drink a lot of milk. I always have. I can go through a full gallon in a couple of days if I don’t pace myself. I really think that love of milk might be what has kept me from having a mouthful of cavities…especially after my extreme fear of the dentist kept me out of the dental chair for nearly 14 years!
I try to always use the 2% variety but once in a while, I’ll by regular. Skim is not an option: it looks like white water.
2. Diet Coke
Diet Coke is my soft drink of choice, but I buy it only when it’s on sale, so when the grocery store puts those 20-ounce six-packs on sale for 4 or 5 for $10, I’ll buy then.
If Diet Pepsi goes on sale and Diet Coke isn’t, I’ll buy Diet Pepsi and then try to alternate between the two so I don’t run out of Diet Coke completely before the next sale hits.
3. Cream of Mushroom Soup
There’s no appeal for me to having this soup by itself. But as an ingredient, you can do a lot with it. It can be the basis of a sauce with either beef or chicken and rice can even be cooked into it.
I tend to prefer brown rice because I know it’s healthier than white rice. But I also tend to prefer the instant variety of brown rice; otherwise, regular brown rice has too many “crunchy” pieces that never soften no matter how long you cook them.
5. Chicken Broth
I use chicken broth to cook rice in sometimes, but I also use it, heated, in place of water in the dog’s food. It helps motivate him to eat the healthier kibble I buy for him that isn’t full of wheat and gluten.
6. Toilet Paper
No household should ever run out of toilet paper. I mean, really, what is this, the dark ages? I only buy toilet paper — specifically ScotTissue — when stores put 12-packs on sale. A good price in my area is $6.99 per pack. When I can find that price, I’ll buy multiple packs, so the bathroom closet looks like I’m preparing for a nuclear war.
7. Coffee Creamer
One of my best friends drinks his coffee black. I can’t quite handle that: I firmly believe coffee needs a little help. So if there’s no creamer around, I’ll reach for a Diet Coke instead.
I don’t really have to explain that one, do I?
9. Dog Biscuits
The Collie needs his treats. The one time I actually forgot to buy another box, he looked at me like I’d lost my mind, so I had to give him a spoon of peanut butter instead. Didn’t make that mistake again!
That fancy Keurig wants purified water; tap just won’t do. Also, I’m actually trying to drink more water and less soda (although you might not know it considering this item is last on the list and Diet Coke is near the top).
That’s my list of grocery items you’ll most often find in my shopping list.
