Fox Host Wanted Obama Arrested for Criticizing Trump
Fox Business host Lou Dobbs wanted former President Barack Obama arrested over his critique of current President Donald Trump.
Does critiquing Donald Trump warrant having Barack Obama arrested? If Fox host Lou Dobbs has his way, maybe so.
I honestly thought this was a joke when I first heard about it, then I saw that several reputable organizations were reporting it.
The Washington Post reported the comments that earned Obama ire from Dobbs came when he was asked about comments former first lady Michelle Obama made. In those comments, she said it was never a good idea to “tweet from bed,” which the Post labeled a “not-so-subtle commentary on Trump’s early-morning social media habits,” despite her claim to the contrary:
“You don’t tweet every thought. And I’m not talking about anybody in particular. I’m talking about us all, because everybody does that.”
At a leadership forum in India, the former president responded to the question in this way:
“Michelle was giving the general idea. . . . Don’t say the first thing that pops in your head. Have a little bit of an edit function. Think before you speak. Think before you tweet.”
I don’t recall Dobbs suggesting that George H.W. Bush should have been detained for calling Trump a “blowhard” or suggesting, “This guy doesn’t know what it means to be president.” Both comments are recorded in Mark Updegrove’s new book, “The Last Republicans,” the Post reported.
Maybe Dobbs hasn’t gotten around to reading it just yet.
But he certainly took issue with what Obama had to say on the December 1st edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight. Dobbs claimed Obama is exhibiting bad manners, is boorish and absurd. But that’s not all:
“I mean, he should be brought back by the Marshals. Isn’t there some law that says presidents shouldn’t be attacking sitting presidents?”
Dobbs’s guest, former presidential candidate and editor-in-chief of Forbes magazine Steve Forbes, said there’s an “unwritten” law.
Which means, of course, there is no such law. (I’d like to think most of us have heard, at least, of the First Amendment.)
Forbes said what Obama doesn’t realize is that “he doesn’t matter anymore.”
Ironic, of course, since they’re taking time on television to talk about someone they claim doesn’t matter, thereby making him matter that much more.
“He doesn’t realize how foolish he looks,” Dobbs said of Obama.
Dobbs has previously criticized Obama for taking on some sort of “shadow tour” to publicly undermine the current president.
What’s particularly curious and worth mentioning is that Obama didn’t directly mention Trump by name at all.
Yet everyone — including Trump’s supporters — seemed to immediately recognize who Obama was talking about.
If the remarks were so off-base, how, exactly, did that happen?
