My 10 Favorite Doughnut Varieties
My post about a potential name change for Dunkin’ Donuts next year left me craving them…so I thought I’d post my 10 favorite doughnut varieties.
It’s not National Doughnut Day or anything like that — at least, not that I know of — but I’ve had a taste for them since yesterday’s post! So here are my 10 favorite doughnut varities:
1. Strawberry Frosted
This one is my favorite at Dunkin’ Donuts. So it’s the one I’ll always pick first if I’m there.
2. Chocolate Frosted
Take a regular glazed donut and add chocolate frosting to the top and we’re in business. This is the first specialty doughnut I’ll pick at Krispy Kreme and the second variety I’d take at Dunkin’ Donuts.
3. Regular Glazed
I’m one of the few people who doesn’t care for the hot glazed doughnuts that make everyone else go bananas at Krispy Kreme. I like normal, cooled, room temperature glazed.
These tend to be more of the “cake” variety of doughnuts but the twists allow for more glaze and, therefore, more goodness.
5. Glazed Lemon Filled
A little glazed pillow pastry with lemon filling? Oh, yes. I’ll take that any time.
6. Blueberry Cake
It beats a blueberry bran muffin any day.
7. Munchkins/Glazed Doughnut Holes
The little round pastries said to be the “middles” of donuts are always a nice alternative to the doughnuts themselves, but I can’t figure out why anyone would ever need an alternative.
8. Chocolate Frosted Crullers
See item #2. A bit of chocolate frosting can make it better.
9. Regular Cake
Even without the glaze, there’s something satisfying about a simple cake doughnut.
10. Cinnamon Apple Filled
These are definitely the least favorite on my list, but hey, if someone brings in a box of doughnuts and this is the only one left by the time I get there, I’m no dummy.
So if you’re on a diet, I apologize for having killed all your willpower. But sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do.
