What’s the Most Popular Halloween Candy in Your State?

We all have our favorite Halloween candy, but a website recently ranked the most popular state by state…and you might be shocked by what it found.

Sometimes, South Carolina makes me scratch my head. Yes, it’s currently my home state, and it’s the state in which I was born and raised.

But every now and then, it just feels a bit off. Remember, South Carolina is the state that fired the first shots of the Civil War and, more recently, the state that launched the Clown Scare.

So while I was disappointed, I certainly wasn’t surprised that the favorite Halloween candy in the Palmetto State just happens to be Candy Corn.

That’s according to Influenster, which came up with the favorite candies in all 50 states. There’s even a map at that link that shows off the candy of choice so that you can easily look up your state.

The most popular Halloween candy, based on the number of votes nationwide, just happens to be Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.

But far be it from South Carolina to go with the flow. No, no. South Carolina had to choose Candy Corn, a confection that has been described as everything from “sugary wax” to “sweet plastic.”

If you couldn’t tell, I don’t have a great deal of love for this choice, either.

Oddly enough, despite the fact the Reese’s cups received the most votes overall, there were only two states in which they received enough votes in a concentrated-enough area to be declared the favorite: Connecticut and Rhode Island.

Candy Corn, on the other hand, was named the most popular candy in more states than any other variety.

Go figure.

Personally, I’d have to side with Alaska and Illinois in this battle. I’d take Snickers any day!

My only real question is what’s up with Louisiana and Pennsylvania?

Do you agree with your home state’s top choice for favorite Halloween candy?
