So, who am I?
As you might have guessed from the name of the journal, I’m Patrick. As you might have read in the “About Me” section, I’m 34 and I work in local television. This is, as that column indicates, my 13th year in this crazy business full of stress, headaches and turmoil…and I love every minute of it in spite of myself.
I was bitten early by the TV bug. My dad worked in a local school district’s media center which featured a low-tech television studio used to broadcast closed circuit programming to schools. At the same time, I had an uncle who worked for the local PBS affiliate, which meant that from time to time, I was able to gain access to the behind-the-scenes world of television production. I knew at age four that television was what I wanted to do. I went to college with people who hadn’t been able to answer that question within a year of graduation. I felt sorry for them, but had a hard time relating to their plight. I consider myself very lucky.
Why start a journal? I have no idea. It seemed like a good idea at the time? Yeah, I suppose it did. I’ve observed some interesting people in this journal community, and hope I’ll fit in.
What do I have to say? Well, this won’t be about any one subject in particular. Some journals are strictly kept to one topic, and there are those who write multiple journals. That seems like too much work for me…so mine will be a potpourri of materials…some opinion, some fact, some jokes, some religion, some politics, some reviews. You’re welcome to comment. I don’t have all the answers. You may have one that I lack.
So that’s my story…let’s get on with it.
