  • I am an older guy and listen to various radio shows, and so, have, over the years, noticed how the American English vernacular changes over time. Would be nice for you to “speak” about why people use the word “basically” in such a strange way. It doesn’t seem to add anything to the subject people are describing. I am thinking that it is an attempt from the speaker to try to convey to his listener his concept into a more “manageable” subject. But it is used before anything that is so simple it cannot be broken down any further. It is just such a buzz word. It is as if speakers use it to sound charming.
