A Day of Drew

Depending on where you live, you’ll be getting a healthy helping of The Price is Right on television today.  CBS is running up to three episodes in place of their normal soap lineup, until the NFL game comes on later this evening.

If you’re in the Eastern time zone, the three shows (reruns from earlier this season) play back to back starting at 12:30pm.  In the Central and Mountain time zones, you’ll get one episode, followed by your midday news, then the two remaining shows.

Unfortunately for game show fans in the Pacific time zone, ‘Price’ doesn’t play at all today because of the timing of the kickoff of the game.  I’d recommend an extra slice of pumpkin pie to ease your suffering.

This may be the first real look many people across the country have gotten at Carey’s hosting style since taking over the role from Bob Barker on October 15th.

Pay close attention to the pocket flaps on his suit coats.  For some reason, Carey seems obsessed with rubbing them (as shown in the photo).  It looks like a nervous habit, which is a nice argument for a corded microphone (so you can hold the cable in your other hand) like the one Barker used for the last 35 years.

  1. Hey Patrick 🙂

Cool! I am glad you are continuing to enjoy the show. It will take Drew a little while to make the show completely his own, he was stepping into the shoes of a legend. For the most part, the show seems pretty much the same, although I am glad the term “Barker’s Beauties” has been retired. I like Drew’s attitude that they should be their own identities. Cool that. 🙂

  2. Well, he’s no Bob Barker, but then again, who is?

Drew is doing an admirable job taking on a role that many fought to get. He wouldn’t have been my first choice, but he brings something different to the table, and as I get used to those differences on a show that has become famous for NOT making huge changes, I’m appreciating him more.

There’s no question that his skills of ad-libbing are helping him tremendously. Barker has that same talent, and that’s what allowed him to deal with the contestants so well.

The main gripes I have about Drew so far are in the minor, nitpick category, so I guess that’s a good sign. 🙂

  3. So Patrick

Just curious, have you had the chance to view Drew Carey on TPIR? What do you think so far? If you have already posted an entry about it, forgive me, but I have been so busy, and I am afraid I have dropped the ball on my blog jogging a little. 🙂

    Always, Carly
