My 10 Favorite Episodes of ‘Two and a Half Men’

The sitcom ‘Two and a Half Men’ somehow managed to last 12 seasons despite the firing of its star Charlie Sheen after eight seasons.

To be honest, ‘Two and a Half Men’ wasn’t completely my cup of tea. I’m no prude, but this show, at times really managed to cross a line, especially the longer it was on the air.

The show featured womanizer Charlie (played by Charlie Sheen) and his uptight brother, Alan, (played by Jon Cryer). Alan’s son, Jake, (played by Angus Jones) stays with him at times. And the brothers’ mother, Evelyn, (Holland Taylor) drives them all crazy. Berta, Charlie’s housekeeper, played by Conchata Ferrell, steals nearly every scene she’s in.

But most of my favorite episodes in this series were very early in its run.

Here’s my list:

1. ‘Woo-Hoo, a Hernia Exam!’

Charlie hurts his back in the middle of a sexual encounter, forcing Alan to take him to a doctor. While getting a hernia exam, Charlie hits on the female physician. Unfortunately, he doesn’t recognize her as one of his past “conquests.”

2. ‘Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab, Squab’

Evelyn insists on having quality time with her grandson, but things naturally don’t go as well as she had hoped they would.

3. ‘Fish in a Drawer’

This episode is designed to look like an episode of CBS’s CSI series. Evelyn’s new husband dies on his wedding day at the Harper home and a CSI team must figure out what really happened.

4. ‘My Tongue is Meat’

Charlie finds that it’s impossible to give up vices like meat, beer and cigars that his girlfriend, Mia, insists he lives without, so he begins sneaking it into his garage so he can indulge while she’s not around.

5. ‘Weekend in Bangkok with Two Olympic Gymnasts’

Instead of just “calling the guy,” Alan decides to try to fix the satellite dish and manages to fall off the roof. So Charlie has to take care of Jake, which includes a trip to a restaurant in Watts.

6. ‘Apologies for the Frivolity’

Charlie seems to be the only one who doesn’t recognize that his new girlfriend is a younger version of his own mother.

7. ‘Your Dismissive Attitude Toward Boobs’

Berta moves in at the invitation of Alan. Charlie gets angry that Alan has invited Berta to move in since it’s Charlie’s home. And Berta, hoping to move in permanently, keeps stirring the pot to increase the tension between the brothers.

8. ‘An Old Flame with a New Wick’

One of Charlie’s old flames shows up…after having had a sex change operation.

9. ‘Smooth as a Ken Doll’

While Alan celebrates writing his final alimony check to his ex-wife, Judith, Charlie meets Judith’s sister, and they bond over their mutual dislike of her.

10. ‘Putting Swim Fins on a Cat’

This is a cute episode because it involves Charlie trying to amuse his girlfriend’s young son. At the same time, Alan, who’s trying to raise money, agrees to become a guinea pig for medical experiments.

That’s my list. What’s your fondest memory of the series? Do you prefer Charlie Sheen’s character or Ashton Kutcher’s?
