Thanks to everyone who stopped by last week’s #Bloggab. We had a great discussion about ways to market your blog. Most of them involved no cost (other than your time).

If you missed last week’s edition, here’s the transcript on Storify.

Blogging can be addictive. Unfortunately, it can also be costly.

If you’re self-hosting your blog, you’re paying a domain fee and a monthly hosting fee. If you’re using social media tools, some of them involve monthly costs. Higher-end website marketing and SEO tools can also add significant monthly bills to your blogging budget.

I imagine that most of us aren’t making much money (if any) on advertising, and that most of us don’t have unlimited cash resources to devote to having the greatest website in the world.

But an interesting sidebar discussion came up during a recent edition of #Blogchat. It began with a comment from Chloe Jeffreys:

Isn’t it ironic that we want to be paid for what we do, but we don’t want to pay for services to help us do it better?

For me, it’s not that I don’t want to pay for a valuable service; it’s that I can’t always afford what said services want to charge.

So this week, we’ll talk about the services we are paying for (if any) and which ones we think give the most bang for your buck. The chat might just have some of us (including me) shopping around for alternatives to services we’re already using!

If you’re currently paying for any kind of services to help you with marketing your blog, social media, or plugins to add functionality (including premium themes), then start making a list. If you’re one of those amazing bloggers who’s doing it all without spending a dime on any extras, we want to hear from you, too!

So please mark your calendars, and I hope you’ll join us this Tuesday night at 9pm ET.

  • I probably spend too much on my blog. However, it’s my hobby. People spend all kinds of money on other hobbies, so I’m not going to stress about it.

    • profkrg Same here…I completely understand. For me, though, I want to make sure that the things I AM spending money on don’t have comparable free counterparts or that there isn’t something even better out there for the same price.
Even in blogging, sometimes it pays to shop around! 🙂
