A New Day in DTV

As if the transition from Analog to Digital television wasn’t confusing enough, there was one more little odd thing about the original deadline of February 17th:&nbsp  the transition was to have happened at 11:59 pm, which essentially means that February 18th is the first full day that digital is up and running.

Unless, of course, television stations in your area have all agreed to wait until the new transition date of June 12th.

Here in Charleston, three broadcasters have made the switch: our local PBS affiliate, the Fox affiliate, and the local MyTV station.

The three remaining affiliates, each of which produces their own news programming, the ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates, are waiting.&nbsp  It’s not clear that they’re all definitely waiting until June 12th, but they’re still broadcasting in analog this morning.

So I’m curious about TV where you are:&nbsp  are your choices all-digital, or do you have to sit through four more months of those annoying “get ready for digital” PSAs that stations are required to air?

  • We’ve got 4 more months on at least a couple of stations…I’ve seen/heard the ads. sigh…where is that mute button!

  • I haven’t really been paying any attention. Up here in Canada, I’m not sure if there even is a Government mandated date to switch, and even is there is, I’m on satellite, so the transfer will be transparent to me.

    • The Canadian date for the switch to digital is set for August 31, 2011, which gives you two-and-a-half years to hear more about DTV.
