Dinner Questions – Part 2

In this week’s edition of the Saturday Six, I used a second set of questions readers said they’d ask me if we had dinner.

If you missed the first set, be sure to read Part 1.

Here are my answers to the questions I asked this past week:

1. From Cat.: What’s the best part about where you live?

Most people would probably say the beach, which I’ll admit is nice, but then I’m not much of a traditional “beach guy.” I don’t surf, I don’t sunbathe, and I generally hate being there when most people go. I prefer the beach when it’s a little chillier, a lot more deserted and quiet: just me and the waves.

I think, though, that for me, the best place about Charleston is probably all of the history. It gives our downtown area so much character.

2. From Cat.: What can we do about so-called Christians who really aren’t? At least, they don’t look&nbsp like they’ve ever read the Gospels. At least, not the Gospels you and I seem to have read.

It’s too easy these days to simply call them out in a hate-filled way. I think the only way to really do something about their actions is to demonstrate how it should be instead.

3. From Strange: Where did you grow up?

I grew up in central South Carolina, and I’ve spent all but about four years of my life in this state.

4. From Strange: What do you like to do in your spare time?

I spend too much time in front of a computer or a television. I’m a homebody and something of a loner, so I’m usually at home with the dog. He does keep me busy, though, so that’s a good thing.

5. From Strange: If you could visit anywhere in the world where would you go?

In terms of an ultimate vacation, probably Ireland. I’ve heard it’s an absolutely gorgeous place. In terms of places I’ve been where I’d really like to spend more time, definitely the San Jose, California area.

6. From Aislínge: What made you decide to start your blog? An inspiration, a need to empty your head, a complaint of something, or something entirely different?

The blog actually started out of a need to write something short on a semi-regular basis. For me, a blog was a good idea because the chance for regular readership would keep me accountable for posting. Like a lot of people, I think, I tried to channel a little of Andy Rooney in some of those early pieces. Every now and then, I still do.

Those are my answers for a second round of reader questions.

Speaking of dinner questions, I hope you come up with some creative and pleasant discussions this week as you gather together for Thanksgiving celebrations!

  • I was up at my brother’s condo over Columbus weekend in Kennebunk ME and we (my brother, sister-in-law and I) went to beach and it was as you said, it was nice and peaceful. We were just about the only ones there and we spent the afternoon reading on the beach.
